Disability Programs for Education and Skill Development

Disabled Welfare Association offers a wide range of inclusive learning and development initiatives tailored for PWDs. Our disability programs include English courses for disabled, structured computer courses for disabled, and accessible disability awareness programs that promote independence and confidence. With support services, guided mentorship, and flexible learning options, we aim to build essential life skills, enhance communication abilities, and empower individuals to participate fully in education, employment, and community activities.

ADVOCACY AND DISABILITY AWARENESS

Since its inception in 2003, DWA has been a strong advocacy group for raising voice for the equality rights of PWDs and it frequently organizes disability awareness walks, seminars and press conferences etc. 

PAKISTAN INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTER(PILC) NETWORK

PILC network of IL Centers offers registration and IL expertise to the staff of newly established IL centers through professional training enabling them to manage their new IL setup independently, effectively and successfully across Sindh and Pakistan.

DWA IL Center of DWA is a fully accessible and exemplary setup offering IL services along with employment opportunities, skills training and recreational prospects to youth with Disabilities.

MOTIVATION AND MOBILIZATION OF PWDs

DWA has always supported youth with disabilities in every possible manner. DWA conducts surveys for their identification and mobilization and engages them in education or skill training

LEARN AND FUN INFORMAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

A replicable imitative of DWA for bridging the learning gap of students with disabilities who were either “out of school” and preparing them for distance learning degree qualification.

AIOU TUTORIAL PROGRAM

Since 2016, DWA has been preparing student for academic qualification by offering them free of cost tutorial programs for AIOU distance learning matriculation/intermediate and graduation programs.

DWA’s INSTITUTIONAL RESIDENCE

As a leading trainer group of IL across Sindh, DWA organizes IL training for the staff of other organizations of disabled people or rural Sindh. They stay here during their training.

INCLUSIVE SPORTS

DWA has its due for launching “inclusive Sports” and Tournaments at provincial and national level. DWA can be justly credited for introducing wheelchair cricket, basketball and tennis etc.

FUN CAFE AND GAMING ZONE

Another setup for DWA for WOW TV web Channel’s live streaming and video editing is located near DWA’s Head Office. Adjacent corporate office is reserved for official meetings. Open area is used for indoor or inclusive games and evening gatherings. 

PROFESSIONAL COMPUTER COURSES

Many of the young users and members with disabilities are academically qualified. DWA seeks sponsorships for their fully funded professional computer courses including one- or two-year’s diplomas.

ENGLISH LEARNING INSTITUTE

English language courses are parts of the routine activity of learn and fun school project. Students with disabilities are prepared to face challenges in their professional lives.  

HANDS HYDERABAD ILC

This center is registered under PILC and it has been the replica of Karachi ILC. This ILC center is organized and managed by HANDS Pakistan in close coordination with PILC and DWA 

CONSULTANCY FOR PWDS

DWA provides the consultancy services, need-based assistance and assistive devices to the parents or guardians for improved caregiving to their family members with disabilities. 

PEER COUNSELING

Peer counseling aims to help PWDs to overcome their self-pity and become more confident. It also prepares them to cope in life with disability acceptance satisfactorily. 

FREE PICK AND DROP SERVICE

A highly commendable and essential service of DWA is the provision of the transport to the youth members of DWA having disabilities, who are engaged in everyday activities of DWA. 

FREE LUNCH + TEA

DWA is justly considered a second home to its members, users and staff altogether. They spend the whole day with close family like ties. DWA provides lunch and tea to all of them.

ASSISTANCE FOR ISSUANCE OF DISABILITY CERTIFICATES

DWA assists in medical examination of PWDs to assess the severity level of their disabilities. The issuance of the disability certificates is based this medical assessment.

ASSISTANCE FOR ISSUANCE OF SCNIC

After securing disability certificates, DWA provides assistance to PWDs for the issuance of CNICs. CNICs entitle PWDs to avail various complementary facilities and specified services.

Education Programs

Skill Development

Disabled Welfare Association provides practical learning opportunities designed to enhance independence and employability for PWDs. IL Training

Our IL Training program is designed to help PWDs manage everyday tasks with confidence and greater independence. Through structured guidance, practical exercises, and supportive coaching, participants learn essential skills for mobility, communication, and self-care. With resources at our independent living center, along with tailored IL training and focused skills training for disabled, we ensure each learner receives meaningful support to improve their daily living abilities and overall quality of life.

Transport Services

Disabled Welfare Association offers reliable and safe mobility solutions to ensure PWDs can reach educational programs, healthcare facilities, and community activities without difficulty. Our service focuses on dignity, comfort, and timely support for individuals who face travel barriers. With structured routes, trained staff, and accessible vehicles, we make daily movement easier. By providing free transport for disabled, coordinated trips to our independent living center, and access for those attending disability education programs, we help reduce isolation and increase participation.

Peer Counseling

Our peer counseling initiative offers a safe, understanding space where PWDs can share experiences, discuss challenges, and receive guidance from individuals who truly relate to their journey. Sessions focus on emotional well-being, confidence building, and practical coping strategies. With supportive mentors and structured discussions, participants feel heard and valued. Through dedicated peer counseling for disabled persons, group interactions within our independent living and links to disability awareness programs, we help individuals strengthen resilience and develop healthier social connections.
